theater production workshops
What is a theater production workshop, you ask? It's a hands-on, intensive performing arts program for youth aged 5 through 18 that can only be experienced at the Black Box. It's a 10-week intensive arts experience for youth, where they learn, firsthand, the elements that go into producing a play or musical. All who register are placed in the cast or crew, as space allows. Perfect for those who are curious about theater, as well as for those who are passionate about it. Many of our theater students go on after high school to become cornerstones in other regional, professional, and community theaters. All of them learn a great deal about teamwork and the satisfaction of doing a job well and with confidence.

This brand new script will give our young cast and crew the opportunity to be the first to produce The Dragon of Slin. A group of teens are engaged in a role-playing game, where they find they must work together to defeat a cabal of villains and their mysterious dragon overlord.
This workshop, for youth aged 5 through 18, is scheduled to begin Sunday, January 5, 2020, with auditions. All registered youth are guaranteed a place in the cast or crew. You will be contacted to schedule an audition time once your registration is confirmed. If your actor cannot attend on this date, please make arrangements in advance for a private audition. We welcome new "techies" also, but available crew positions are few. If you are registering someone who wishes to participate as a technician, please contact us first to be certain space is available.
Rehearsals for production workshops are scheduled with participants' schedules in mind. You will be asked for a list of date and time conflicts after you register, and you can make changes to that list up to January 5, 2020. We ask that, once the schedule reflecting these blackout dates is completed, you and your cast/crew member commit to attendance at all scheduled rehearsals. Unexcused absences may mean the loss of a role. The only days which are absolutely mandatory are rehearsals during Tech Week, (March 2 through 5, 2020), and performances (which includes strike immediately after the final performance).
Eight performances of The Dragon of Slin will take place over two weekends at the Black Box Arts Center March 6 through 15, 2020. (Fridays at 7:00 pm; Saturdays at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm; and Sundays at 2:00 pm). To confirm your place, pay online or mail us a check. In the notes for your order, please give your child(ren)'s name and the email address you'd like for us to use when following up on your registration.
